Mark Title, Ph.D., PMP Engineering Management

Dr. Mark Title has spent more than twenty years in advanced technology and team management supporting industry, health care, and the community. With a PhD in Applied Physics from UCSD and a BSE in Engineering Physics from Princeton, Dr. Title comes to us after 14 years in developing medical instrumentation at Biosite Diagnostics and Alere. There he led teams through multiple generations of diagnostic product development and advised sister companies on implementation of alternative technologies. Prior to Biosite Dr. Title developed novel technologies to shape microwaves and test superconductors at Innova Laboratories, and established the San Diego office of the Schafer Corporation, providing evaluation and monitoring of classified projects in satellite and submarine laser communications. His doctoral work developed novel electro-optic materials and devices in creating a new generation of photonic supercomputers.

Tapio Vahamaki Software / Firmware Development

Tapio Vahamaki is a developer of prototypes and embedded firmware, hardware, and control systems for industrial, commercial and consumer applications. He specializes in real-time control systems, designing hardware and software, prototype construction and 'proof-of-concept' development. Mr. Jurgensen is a strategist, attorney and entrepreneur with over 21 years experience in business strategy, corporate formation, fundraising, corporate partnering, business development and intellectual property.  He has worked in a wide variety of industries including life sciences, consumer products, high technology and professional services, with deep legal experience in Corporate and Securities Law, Intellectual Property, Dispute Resolution and all varieties of Agreements.  Mr. Jurgensen founded several companies, including Jurgensen Villasenor, Catalyst Law Group, and Allylix, an industrial biotechnology company that just completed a $9MM+ venture round. In addition, he has served as Associate General Counsel for Ligand Pharmaceuticals and as Intellectual Property Counsel for the 3M Corporation.

Emily Winn-Deen, Ph.D. Diagnostic Product Development

Dr. Winn-Deen received her B.S. in Chemistry from Lehigh University and her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Boston University, and has over 30 years of experience in diagnostics product development. Currently she is president of Rx Dx Advisors, a diagnostics consulting company, and was previously vice president for diagnostics product development at Illumina. Prior to that Dr. Winn-Deen was vice president for genetics and oncology R&D at Cepheid, a molecular diagnostics company focusing on rapid nucleic acid testing located in Sunnyvale, CA. Her career has included development of clinical chemistry reagents, urinalysis strips, immunoassays, FISH probes, and DNA diagnostics.

Roman Burtyk, BSEE, MBA

Roman Burtyk has more than 30 years of innovative product development experience in the defense and aerospace industries.  An experienced engineer with both technical and business degrees (BSEE from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Masters in Business from Point Loma Nazarene University), Roman excels at converting customer requirements into market products.  He creates customer trust from a position of honesty and integrity focussing on the voice of the customer.

Roman has recently accepted a role as Director of Programs on Exusmed’s leadership team, where he will be assisting the company in tactical and strategic initiatives designed to grow the organization.  Prior to Exusmed, Roman spent over 15 years as Vice President of Engineering at Cobham Sensor Systems (formerly REMEC Defense & Space).  At Cobham Roman led a multi-faceted engineering team creating custom microelectronic assemblies for tier 1 DoD clients and was accountable for managing the entire product life cycle from concept to full scale production.

Dr. Teresa Larsen, Ph.D.  Technology Management & Data Visualization

Dr. Larsen has over 20 years of experience consulting in the biotechnology industry and a track record of building and sustaining businesses as a C-level administrator.  She has successfully planned and directed operational policies, objectives, and initiatives in Fortune 500 companies (e.g., Pfizer) and small startups, achieving short- and long-term financial and operational goals.  Her entrepreneurial vision has allowed her to direct business development to ensure future growth.

Dr. Larsen earned her BS in Biochemistry at UC Davis, her MS in Molecular Biology at SDSU, and her doctoral degree in Biochemistry at UCLA.  Through her scientific training she perceived a void in the area of data visualization, important in this information age as data volume grows while the means to communicate it lags.  Dr. Larsen is currently the Director of The Foundation for Scientific Literacy, a nonprofit dedicated to the clear and accurate representation of science to the public.
